Christ was prefigured as a lion (Rev. V:5 & Gen. xlix:8), on account of his royalty, in like manner Antichrist was spoken of as a lioness, on account of his violence. As Christ springs from the tribe of Judah, so likewise the Scriptures speak of Antichrist as a lion's whelp springing from the tribe of Dan (Deut. xxxiii:22); Christ is a King, so also Antichrist is an abominable earthly king. The Saviour was manifested as a lamb (John 1:29), so also he will appear as a lamb to deceive and to destroy. The Saviour appeared in the form of Man and showed his Holy Flesh like a temple (John ii:19), the other will also raise the stone Temple of Jerusalem. |
